Cacao Almond Porridge

This wholesome porridge made with raw cacao and almonds is packed with nutritional goodness to start your day off right. Raw cacao is an ancient superfood that is loaded with potent antioxidants called polyphenols, along with magnesium, calcium, iron, potassium, phosphorus and zinc. Raw cacao has some of the highest levels of antioxidants of any known food. Using Bodhi Organic Hot ChocolaTEA powder instead of cacao powder will give your breakie the added immune boosting benefits of medicinal mushrooms. Almonds give this healthy breakfast an extra boost in protein, vitamin E and healthy unsaturated fats.

Cacao Almond Porridge


1 cup rolled oats
2 cups almond milk
1 tbsp Bodhi Hot ChocolaTEA or raw cacao powder
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 ripe banana, sliced
Handful berries (blackberries, blueberries)
1 large tbsp creamy peanut or almond butter
3 tsp pure maple syrup, raw honey or coconut nectar
Handful of nuts + seeds (e.g. almonds, hazelnuts, pistachio, walnuts, Brazil)


Method:

  1. In a small saucepan combine rolled oats, almond milk, cacao powder and cinnamon and bring to the boil. Reduce to a simmer covered for 10 minutes until soft and creamy. Add more milk if needed.
  2. Stir through honey.
  3. Spoon porridge into a bowl, drizzle with extra honey, almond butter, banana, berries and nuts and seeds.

Serves 1-2.
